Sean Scully has indeed painted with orange although he is unlikely to have painted with this particular shade of neon! He stands in his overalls with his back to us, facing a work-in-progress, holding an open can of paint in one hand and a loaded brush in the other as though deciding where to apply the next stroke. What is he going to do next?
This homage to one of Holly Frean's painter heroes was made as for a solo exhibition at Paul Smith's flagship store in Mayfair, London, in 2016.
