In celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Wandsworth Common in 2021, A Pack Of Leaves is Holly’s latest addition to her ongoing playing cards series*. It is painted in gouache on recycled cotton rag paper overlaid with monoprint drawings and depicts 54 native and non-native tree species currently found in the park across from her home studio. In lock down for the majority of the past year, Holly spent much of her time either looking over the tree tops from her studio window or walking her greyhound through the mini forests and across the grassy fields of the Common. ‘I felt that painting a portrait of the trees in this way was the best way I could pay tribute to the land,’ and she has pledged £1000 from the sale of this work to local charities, Friends of Wandsworth Common and Enable, who aim to plant 150 new saplings over the next few months. It is hoped that this year’s new trees and shrubs will connect existing areas of woodland and foster biodiversity, including rare butterfly species. More details of the project here.
