Oil on bronze
25 x 16 x 4 cm
First in an edition of three
Behold! El Greco's palette (as re-imagined by Holly Frean) cast in solid bronze, hanging on specially designed scrail - half screw, half flat-headed nail. One in a series of three different palettes belonging to three different artist heroes. Each features a typically quirky, miniature oil portrait of the artist it belonged to - in this case the great man and old master, El Greco - as both a gesture of homage and as a stamp of authority.
This bronze wall-piece was shown as part of a series of palette paintings shown at Paul Smith's shop in Mayfair, London, during Frean's solo exhibition Who's Counting? in 2016.
